multiple offenses

multiple offenses
A single act may be an offense against two statutes, and if each statute requires proof of an additional fact which the other does not, an acquittal or conviction under either statute does not exempt the defendant from prosecution and punishment under the other. If there is identity between the two charges, the defendant may not be punished for both, though he may be punished for the more serious. Com. v. Kuklis, 361 Mass. 302, 280 N.E.2d 155
